MASTERCLASSES FOR INCLUSIVE MULTICULTURAL ENGAGEMENT

This multicultural engagement masterclass was led by our CEO, Ash Chand, and our Director of Community & Partnerships, Bwe Thay.

The group explored:

• Why multicultural engagement is a strategic priority
• What meaningful multicultural engagement truly looks like
• Recognising your own cultural dimensions and how they shape communication
• How multicultural engagement can fail
• How to build and sustain relationships with multicultural communities over time
• Key principles that should guide every piece of community engagement (Commitment, Compassion, Consistency, Curiosity)
• Practical ways to embed inclusion into communications
• Building genuine trust, and how to turn these relationships into partnerships

Jess and Jamila from Plain Language Matters delivered this masterclass, bringing over 20 years of experience helping organisations communicate more clearly and effectively.

When you write in plain language, more people can find, understand, and use your information. Therefore, for our increasingly diverse Australian audience, this helps your organisation improve understanding, reduce confusion and build trust.

Various hands-on activities were conducted to explore how to use plain language effectively in the workplace. Individuals left the session with the skills to start writing and editing in plain language straight away.

In this half-day workshop, individuals learned: 

• How to write clearly using plain language principles
• Why it’s important and how it relates to your work
• How to write in plain language using a piece of your own writing
